17-year-old boy mourns the death of his parents and siblings in the Manteca accident

DAVIS, California — Days after four people died in a car crash in Manteca, the family is helping each other on the road to recovery.

Natalie Negrete, 17, is the eldest daughter in the family and is caring for her three siblings in the hospital with the help of her family after the tragedy.

“The police came to my house and I was confused,” she said. “Then they were crying and they just told me that my dad had died and he started telling me that my whole family was dead or fighting for their lives in the hospital.”

The crash occurred on westbound Highway 120, east of Van Ryn Avenue, around 10 p.m. Saturday, when the driver lost control, causing the car to roll over and catch fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. .

Two adults and two minors who were traveling in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, including the driver and a baby. A total of seven people were traveling in the vehicle, all part of the same Livermore family.

The deceased were identified by the medical examiner as: Arriaga Bonifacio Negrete, 44 years old, Liliana Guerrero Mendoza, 40 years old, Jorge Negrete Guerrero, 12 years old, and David Negrete Guerrero, 4 months old.


“I can’t even process it, I don’t even know who to think about,” Natalie Negrete said. “(My dad) only wanted the best for us. He was working so hard to get a house and he was so close, so close to getting a house. He loved us like crazy, my dad did everything he could to help people.”

She says her parents and five siblings were returning to Livermore after a quinceañera.

“They’ve been planning it for a week like they’re excited to go,” he said.

It was an event he was supposed to attend with everyone else, but he started feeling sick during the night so he stayed home.

“It was okay, it was weird,” Natalie Negrete said.

CHP says good Samaritans rushed to save those in the crash, leaving two recovering at UC Davis Medical Center.

“One is in a coma. My sister is… she has serious injuries, but she… she is still here,” Natalie Negrete said.

The 17-year-old says she is still in shock as she deals with unfathomable anguish. She says she is grateful for those who helped her family the best they could.

“I wanted to thank the people who were able to save… my brothers who are there, because if it wasn’t for them, I don’t know what I would have done, like losing seven people in your family… How can you even come back from that ? she said.

She now relies on her cousins ​​and other family members to help her and her siblings while they recover.

CHP is still investigating the crash and does not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
