This week, 29,772 votes were cast in the race for the winner of the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll.

Amaya Sigala of Oak Hills finished with 42.91% of the total votes cast by Daily Press readers.

The star softball player received 12,774 votes, besting 12 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.

Amaya is the ninth Oak Hills student and the third on the softball team to be named Athlete of the Week.

To earn a spot on this week’s ballot, Amaya collected nine hits in three games for the Bulldogs last week.
