A complex of strong storms heading in this direction may produce areas of 60+ mph winds and/or tornadoes before leaving the state.

INDIANAPOLIS — We continue to announce the need to monitor the weather tonight, at least between 9 pm and 2 am. That’s when the beginning of a complex of thunderstorms will move through central Indiana.

Currently, in adverse climatic conditions, low levels of humidity are lacking locally. However, a narrow wedge of slightly higher dew points (60°+) is expected to reach parts of central Indiana later tonight to help make the air more “juicy” and allow this storm complex survive even after daytime heating.

While we anticipate widespread gusty storms and a period of heavy rain during the aforementioned “weather conscious” period, we do not anticipate widespread severe weather. However, there may be some areas with wind gusts over 60 mph, embedded rotation, and possibly some tornadoes on the leading edge of the storm complex. This is already happening in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
